Has April felt like the most chaotic month for anyone else? I feel like I am just trying to catch my breath and then I’m swooped into something else somewhere else and forget what I needed to do in the first place 🤣 it’s been a chaotic month but also a month full of meeting all kinds of people and of course, eating all kinds of yummy food! We still have a few days though 😂

日本に引っ越してから買ったしょうもない小物の多さよ…😅

Luckily it was a buy 2 gums and get the cover free deal so it wasn’t expensive, but that’s how they get ya! 🤣
I bought it at Family Mart in Osaka and I’m not sure if it’s a nationwide thing but it’s the first time I’ve ever seen it!

What advice would you give your 19 year old self?

Not sure why this chocolate cake got me reflecting about life but I maybe I do my best deep thinking while decorating cakes 😅
Btw that cake slicer aid has now become a staple cake decorating tool in my kitchen and it was 100 yen!! 🤩

CAKE INGREDIENTS:
[A] 1 whole egg
[A] 1 egg yolk
[A] 55g granulated sugar
[B] 35g cake flour
[B] 10g cocoa powder
[C] 8g heavy cream
[C] 10g butter

**OPTIONAL: I added a layer of blueberry jam that I made in between the 2nd and 3rd layer of cake but you can replace that with any jam/compote! OR you can just keep it a simple chocolate cake :)

CHOCOLATE CREAM INGREDIENTS:
[a] 80g chocolate
[a] 40g heavy cream
[b] 160g heavy cream (cold)

RUM SYRUP INGREDIENTS:
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp rum
***melt together the sugar and water in the microwave and add rum (option to take away the rum if you don’t drink alcohol!)

なんでこのチョコレートケーキを作ってたら人生について考えちゃったのか分からないけど、たぶん私、ケーキのデコレーションをしてる時が一番深く物事を考えられる時間なのかも😅
ちなみに、このケーキスライサー、今や私のキッチンで定番のケーキデコレーションツールになってるんだけど、なんと100円だったんだよ！！🤩

ケーキの材料：
[A] 1個卵
[A] 1個卵黄
[A] 55g グラニュー糖
[B] 35g 薄力粉
[B] 10g ココアパウダー
[C] 8g 生クリーム
[C] 10g バター

※オプション：私は2層目と3層目の間に自家製ブルーベリージャムを入れましたが、お好みのジャムやコンポートに変えてもOK！シンプルなチョコレートケーキとしてそのままでも美味しいです :)

チョコレートクリームの材料：
[a] 80g チョコレート
[a] 40g 生クリーム
[b] 160g 生クリーム（冷たいもの）

ラムシロップの材料：
- 大さじ1 グラニュー糖
- 大さじ2 水
- 大さじ1 ラム酒
※グラニュー糖と水を電子レンジで溶かしてからラムを加えます（お酒を飲まない方はラムを抜いてもOK！）

When I first started learning how to bake and decorate cakes, I was taught to decorate it directly on the turntable then transfer it to the cake board so that it keeps the board clean! I’ve done it this way for so long that I’ve continued to decorate my cakes this way, but people on TikTok were NOT happy with me 🤣
I’ve tried putting the cake board down first but it always gets so messy and whipped cream/buttercream is slightly oily so it does not wipe off very well!

I’ve also tried putting down parchment paper and wax paper but they both slide on the turntable!! I have tried the different techniques I promise! 😅

OR maybe I’m just in it for the thrill lol but I am open to any and all suggestions 🤣

ケーキ作り始めたばかりの頃、「回転台の上でデコレーションしてからケーキボードに移す」って教わって、それ以来ず〜っとそのスタイルでやってるんだけど…TikTokに載せたら、めっちゃ怒られた（笑）

ボードに直接置いてデコレーションするのも試したけど、どうしてもクリームで汚れちゃうし、ホイップとかバタークリームってちょっと油っぽいから拭いてもキレイにならないのよね〜。

クッキングシートとかワックスペーパー敷いても、回転台の上だと滑るし…色々やってみたけど、なかなか上手くいかん！😅

まぁでもスリルを楽しんでる説もあるけど（笑）
いい方法あったらぜひ教えて〜！

大好きな下北沢でガールズデー！！✨

My sweet friend @eldrflwr who makes INCREDIBLE food and desserts came to Tokyo so I had to take her around one of my favorite spots 💕

Shimokitazawa or “Shimokita” is such a cute area with tons of thrifts stores, amazing bakeries and cafes, live houses and unique stores!
If you’re looking for a fun neighborhood in Tokyo to explore, I highly recommend Shimokita 🤩

日本語って難しいね🥝🥒🤣

I made Japanese pudding balls (see previous post) and wanted to have my favorite taste tester try it for me!
The difference between the pronunciation of kiwi and cucumber in Japanese is super subtle but my grandma kept saying “kyu-ri” which is cucumber 🥒 and kiwi 🥝 is just “kiwi” in Japanese too 🤣 it’s confusing I know!
I think it’s the “ri” sound at the end that she kept saying which was starting to confuse me too lol.

Do you think she got it in the end? Vote on the poll and let her know 😂

ダイソーでお買い物するとこうゆう事になる😅

I really wanted this mini circular ice mold and it was conveniently near the pudding mixes and my brain went 💡
So I present to you…circular pudding 🍮😅

I should have been more gentle when pouring the mix into the molds to get a more even circle, so I’ll note that for the next time 🤣

What do you think? Any new mini circular dessert ideas?

Here is what I ate at Tokyo Disneyland (along with a side of Percy Pig gummies lol)

I get a lot of questions about Disney and USJ since it’s a popular spot for people visiting, so here was what I ate when I went there last and how much it cost! Disclaimer: I went with friends so we all waited in different lines and bought different foods to share since the lines were CRAZY that day! 😵‍💫
Thank goodness @thejapanstagram brought so many Percy Pig gummies 🤣

I hiiiiighlyyyy recommend you go during a weekday if you can since it is just so crowded!

Today I decided to take their onigirazu recipe and put my own spin on it by adding egg, lettuce and shiso leaves which meant that mine was so much thicker — hence the different shaping method — but still an onigirazu!
These products are from different prefectures around Japan so it felt like I was getting fun souvenirs from around the country! I cannot wait to put that black sesame jam on all of my desserts! 😍

Since it was an interview where I got to make the soy sauce salmon onigiri my mom would make me as a kid, I knew I had to wear her apron! 🍙
So many people gave me great advice on trying to go about re-creating this apron so maybe I will try to get something in the works this year 👀

🍙 cookies? Right???
🍙クッキー？おにぎりだよね？？

Onigiri are rice balls often with a piece of seaweed around it with different fillings like umeboshi (sour plum), konbu kelp, tuna mayo, fried shrimp tempura…the options are endless! Some onigiri have seasonings mixed into the rice like black sesame, bonito flakes, seaweed…again, endless options!

I used my basic cookie dough recipe from my bear and bunny cookies, but made about 70g of the dough black with black cocoa and 25g of the dough red with strawberry powder!
I divided up the dough into three to make the onigiri part to make the triangle shape 🍙

I still need to test these again before I get a more formal recipe out, but what do you we think?
If you squint hard enough I think it looks like an onigiri 🤣

This is part 1 of my series for how to make my Japanese sweet potato tart I shared before! There were lots of requests on how to make it and I figured I need to first start with teaching you how to make the yakiimo or baked Japanese sweet potato✨
It’s my absolute favorite way to bake these adorably-named potatoes!
Pretty much, all you have to do is wrap them in a wet paper towel and bake them for 90 minutes! It’s so easy and the full recipe with detailed instructions is on my website linked in my bio! 🍠

I was in absolute awe ✨
感動しました✨

“Wagashi” directly translates to “Japanese confectionery,” and it’s an essential part of Japanese culinary culture 🇯🇵

I had the privilege of experiencing a beautiful 8-course wagashi & tea omakase at @999_kukuku in Roppongi and it was nothing short of magical.

Each course, created by wagashi artisan @fujita_kaito999 told a story of Japan’s rich traditions and seasonal beauty. The menu changes every single month incorporating seasonal ingredients and this month’s course includes early spring flavors like ume and nanohana 🌱

Each dish is assembled right in front of you and it was like I was watching a show — I was mesmerized! 🤩
What made it even more incredible was the different teas that were paired with each course. Also, the plates and cups they picked were STUNNING!
The delicate textures, vibrant colors, and even temperatures of each dish were all so thoughtfully combined. I’ve never experienced anything quite like this course!

Fun fact: While Wagashi dates back to the Heian period (794-1185), it truly became refined during the Edo period (1603-1868), when it was created to balance the bitterness of matcha in Japanese tea ceremonies.

Every bite was a true work of art and I want to go back to experience a different month’s beautiful wagashi one day 🥹

初めての和菓子とお茶のおまかせコースを体験して、和菓子の概念が変わりました👏
@999_kukuku の8品おまかせ和菓子とお茶のコースは本当に素晴らしかったです！

毎月変わるメニューで、今月は春の初めを感じる梅や菜の花など、旬の素材が使われていました。
和菓子職人の @fujita_kaito999 さんが丁寧に一品一品作り上げていくのを目の前で見ることができて、まるでショーを見ているようでした。

さらに素晴らしかったのは、各コースにぴったりのお茶がペアリングされていて、和菓子一品一品の味わいをより引き立ててくれるところ。お皿やカップも細部にまでこだわって選ばれていて、どれも本当に美しかった！
色や食感、温度のバランスが細かく考えられていて、まさに芸術作品のようでした。

いつか違う月の和菓子も食べてみたいと思いました🥹
