サクサクって言ったっけ？😅

I actually didn’t like “imo kenpi” growing up 🤫 but it’s because I didn’t really like sweet potatoes or pumpkin or chestnut because of a texture thing, BUT IM A DIFFERENT PERSON NOW lol and I looooove them all — especially sweet potatoes!!! 🍠

Whenever I am in Nagoya, I have to have to have to stop by the Kakuozan Kichiimo store (in Kakuozan or at the Nagoya Station in the @takashimaya.japan basement food floor) and buy these “Imo Kenpi” sticks or the thicker sweet potato bites that I shared in a previous Shinkansen snacking video!! 🤩

These are the snacks that once you open, it’s kind of hard to stop soooo don’t say I didn’t warn you!!! 😏

Side note: I was opening a new one since I had used my old one for yearsssss 😅

My 90 year old grandma’s favorite somen noodle dish: HIYASHI SOMEN! ✨
It’s a take on the classic “Hiyashi Chuuka” which was a noodle dish that originated in Chinese restaurants in Japan in the 30s! Apparently it was a dish that was invented to enjoy during the hot summer months when people wanted something light and refreshing.

There are a variety of toppings like cucumber, egg, tomato, etc. and I like to add as many veggies as I can for my grandma! I used chicken today but feel free to use ham or whatever protein you have :)
I also loveee adding shiso leaves and myoga (Japanese ginger) for some extra flavor and crunch!
I made this for my grandma so I didn’t want to make it spicy, but I also love adding chili oil or sriracha for a little spice 🔥

It’s getting HOT in Japan and I know that my appetite goes down when it feels like a sauna outside lol so I hope we’re all staying hydrated and eating some yummy food! 💕

昔ながらの「冷やし中華」からインスピレーションを受けた一品で、1930年代に日本の中華料理店で生まれたんだそう。暑い夏にぴったりな、さっぱりした麺料理です☀️

きゅうり、卵、トマトなど、色んなトッピングを楽しめるのが魅力。私はなるべくたくさん野菜をのせて、おばあちゃんにも栄養たっぷりに仕上げています😊
今日は鶏肉を使いましたが、ハムやお好きなタンパク質でアレンジしてもOK！

しそやみょうがをたっぷり入れるのもおすすめ。風味とシャキシャキ感がアップして、すごくおいしいんです〜！
今回はおばあちゃん用なので辛味は控えましたが、個人的にはラー油やシラチャーをちょい足ししてピリ辛にするのも大好き🔥

日本もどんどん暑くなってきましたね〜🥵
外がサウナみたいで食欲も落ちがちですが、こまめに水分をとって、おいしいごはんで元気に過ごしましょう〜💕

The candied sweet potatoes or “daigaku-imo” have become my new obsession! 🍠✨

I picked up a variety of snacks at the Nagoya station before I got on the shinkansen 🚅 to go back to Tokyo!
Both the “oni-manju” or the sweet potatoes bun and the candied sweet potatoes can be found in the basement of the Takashimaya department store from a shop placed called Kakuozan Kichiimo! 💛
They also have these super thin sweet potato snacks which I LOVE as well!!

The popcorn from Garrett Popcorn is seasonal so they might have a different flavor when you go! I can’t get enough of the crispy crunchy texture 🤩

The cake falling over looks like it’s in slow motion 🤣 the moment I knew it was a fail lol 💔

I tested this so many times before and I think I got too excited and piped on too much cream, the custard was wayyy too soft even though it’s usually very stable 😭 and I think everything that could go wrong went wrong 🤣

このミルフィーユは何度も試作していたのに、今回はテンションが上がりすぎてクリームを絞りすぎちゃったみたいで、いつもは安定しているカスタードもなぜかすごく柔らかくなっちゃって😭

人生で一番高価な食事！納得の美味しさでした 🤩

I was invited to Wagyu Teppanyaki Ousaka on the 19th floor of the Hotel Plaza Osaka and it was a night to remember!

Their Wagyu Kiwami course features A5 rank Tajima beef which is a premium Wagyu beef that is only available to those with direct connections, along with A5 rank Omi beef which is widely considered one of the top 3 Japanese beef.

Each dish in this course was crafted BEAUTIFULLY and it was so cool getting to see it being made in front of you while the sun was setting in the background!
If you are looking for a nice meal to splurge on during your travels in Osaka, I highly recommend saving this spot!

日本に引っ越してから買ったしょうもない小物の多さよ…😅

Luckily it was a buy 2 gums and get the cover free deal so it wasn’t expensive, but that’s how they get ya! 🤣
I bought it at Family Mart in Osaka and I’m not sure if it’s a nationwide thing but it’s the first time I’ve ever seen it!
What do we think? Did I need this? 🫣

What advice would you give your 19 year old self?

Not sure why this chocolate cake got me reflecting about life but I maybe I do my best deep thinking while decorating cakes 😅
Btw that cake slicer aid has now become a staple cake decorating tool in my kitchen and it was 100 yen!! 🤩

CAKE INGREDIENTS:
[A] 1 whole egg
[A] 1 egg yolk
[A] 55g granulated sugar
[B] 35g cake flour
[B] 10g cocoa powder
[C] 8g heavy cream
[C] 10g butter

**OPTIONAL: I added a layer of blueberry jam that I made in between the 2nd and 3rd layer of cake but you can replace that with any jam/compote! OR you can just keep it a simple chocolate cake :)

CHOCOLATE CREAM INGREDIENTS:
[a] 80g chocolate
[a] 40g heavy cream
[b] 160g heavy cream (cold)

RUM SYRUP INGREDIENTS:
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp rum
***melt together the sugar and water in the microwave and add rum (option to take away the rum if you don’t drink alcohol!)

なんでこのチョコレートケーキを作ってたら人生について考えちゃったのか分からないけど、たぶん私、ケーキのデコレーションをしてる時が一番深く物事を考えられる時間なのかも😅
ちなみに、このケーキスライサー、今や私のキッチンで定番のケーキデコレーションツールになってるんだけど、なんと100円だったんだよ！！🤩

ケーキの材料：
[A] 1個卵
[A] 1個卵黄
[A] 55g グラニュー糖
[B] 35g 薄力粉
[B] 10g ココアパウダー
[C] 8g 生クリーム
[C] 10g バター

※オプション：私は2層目と3層目の間に自家製ブルーベリージャムを入れましたが、お好みのジャムやコンポートに変えてもOK！シンプルなチョコレートケーキとしてそのままでも美味しいです :)

チョコレートクリームの材料：
[a] 80g チョコレート
[a] 40g 生クリーム
[b] 160g 生クリーム（冷たいもの）

ラムシロップの材料：
- 大さじ1 グラニュー糖
- 大さじ2 水
- 大さじ1 ラム酒
※グラニュー糖と水を電子レンジで溶かしてからラムを加えます（お酒を飲まない方はラムを抜いてもOK！）

When I first started learning how to bake and decorate cakes, I was taught to decorate it directly on the turntable then transfer it to the cake board so that it keeps the board clean! I’ve done it this way for so long that I’ve continued to decorate my cakes this way, but people on TikTok were NOT happy with me 🤣
I’ve tried putting the cake board down first but it always gets so messy and whipped cream/buttercream is slightly oily so it does not wipe off very well!

I’ve also tried putting down parchment paper and wax paper but they both slide on the turntable!! I have tried the different techniques I promise! 😅

OR maybe I’m just in it for the thrill lol but I am open to any and all suggestions 🤣

ケーキ作り始めたばかりの頃、「回転台の上でデコレーションしてからケーキボードに移す」って教わって、それ以来ず〜っとそのスタイルでやってるんだけど…TikTokに載せたら、めっちゃ怒られた（笑）

ボードに直接置いてデコレーションするのも試したけど、どうしてもクリームで汚れちゃうし、ホイップとかバタークリームってちょっと油っぽいから拭いてもキレイにならないのよね〜。

クッキングシートとかワックスペーパー敷いても、回転台の上だと滑るし…色々やってみたけど、なかなか上手くいかん！😅

まぁでもスリルを楽しんでる説もあるけど（笑）
いい方法あったらぜひ教えて〜！
